Being a single mother can be daunting in so many ways. Your children depend on you. You have to work, possibly go to school, cook, clean, pay the bills, take care of a house, take care of a yard, help with school and homework, be involved in every aspect of your children’s lives. It can be an overwhelming task and everyone out there can use some help and support at one time or another. Today we are going to be talking a little bit about the different types of online support that single mothers can find and how valuable that support can be.Whether you are a single mother by choice or not, it can be a very overwhelming and often times frustrating job. Even if you have family and friends in your life that can be a help to you, it can be really nice to have a supportive and loving group to be a part of. It is really easy to feel alone when you are a single parent, but please, know that you are not alone. There are so many resources out there to help you!
There are so many different resources online for single mothers, all mothers really. If you are interested in reading stories and articles about other single mom’s journeys through life, there are tons and tons of single mom blogs out there. Some are serious, some are not so serious. Some are meant to be funny and others are meant to just provide an outlet for single moms to vent and air their frustrations and concerns. If you are looking for a place to begin to sort through all the blogs and find the best ones for single parents, there is a really great and helpful list here: http://www.circleofmoms.com/top25/single-parent
This list is a great resource and can get you started if you are searching for some single parent blogs to browse. As I mentioned before, you will find everything on these blogs from dating advice for single moms, single moms of special needs kids, blending families, adoption for single parents, getting through divorce, being a single mom age 40+, even blogs for single dads! If you want to read about it, chances are, there is a blog for that.
There are also a ton (TON!) of online forums for single parents. One of what I think is the best online forums out there, regardless of whether or not they are for single parents or not, is the Baby Center Community Forums. Please note that this is not just a forum for single moms, but a plethora of information from all different types of families. One of my favorite things about this forum is that there are so many different groups that you can join and be a part of. You can simply read through the forums and find any kind of information that you need, or you can choose to create an account and participate in group discussions on the forums. This is a great way to make friends with other moms and get the advice and support that we all need. You can find any different kind of group on the Baby Center Forums, one of my favorites is the birth month groups. You can join a group for the month and year that your baby was born to discuss your child’s progress with other moms who have kids the same age. This is a really cool feature. You can also find a ton of other groups to join on the Baby Center Forums. There are groups for disciplining your child, groups based on your location, groups based on your interests (coupons, anyone?), groups based on the age of your child, etc. The list really does go on and on and no matter what you are looking for, you can find it there. Here is a link to this wonderful site if you would like to check it out for yourself: http://community.babycenter.com/.
The options for support for single parents is so widely available these days! Even though a lot of times single moms feel lonely and overwhelmed, there really is no need for it. With all the support groups available, having someone to lean on should be easy! There are ton of support groups out there! There is a great forum and website for single moms available here: http://singleparentsnetwork.com/. The Single Parents Network has forums, advice, and can help assist you in a ton of different aspects of life, from legal issues to government help. Another great forum is available at Cafe Mom (http://www.cafemom.com/). This forum contains all sorts of groups, you can join a group by age. They have groups of 20-something moms, 30-something moms, etc. You can join by interest such as adoption, homeschooling, etc. This is a really great forum as well.
As you can see, the online support for single moms is definitely out there, you just have to go and look for it! Even though the friends that you might make in an online forum setting might not be able to go hang out with you, they are most definitely REAL friends and can offer the support and help that we all need on occasion. The most important thing to remember is that you are never really all alone in this journey that we are all on. There are other moms out there that are going through the same things as you are going through, and they would love to connect. That is the beauty of this digital age that we are in. Even though we are worlds apart, you can connect with people who are in the same boat as you. Online forums and support groups are just one of the many ways that single moms can find the help that they need. If you are still looking for ideas, simply do a web search for “single mom forum” or “single parent support group” and you will find so many different options! Best wishes on your journey!
